Animation / InSpeck

InSpeck is a world-renowned leader in providing 3D
technology solutions.
InSpeck is the reference in 3D optical measurement digitizing using
non-laser technology. InSpeck conducts it own research and
development and designs and manufactures non-contact optical
digitizers and 3D modeling software.
InSpeck specializes in digitizing free form objects, in particular,
humans. Common applications of these solutions are in medical-based
3D modeling as well as in computer-assisted modeling and animation,
multimedia applications and electronic games. InSpeck’s 3D modeling
software, InSpeck EM, has recently been awarded two prestigious
honors, the Computer Graphics World 1999 Innovation Award as well as
the 2000 Design and New Technologies.

InSpeck’s digitizers are used worldwide by major pre and
post-production facilities and have been used in the production of a
number of films including X-MEN, Pirates of the Carribean, The Cat
in the Hat, Peter Pan, Harry Potter 3 and many more. InSpeck’s 3D
digitizing and modeling solutions are used in numerous medical
applications. Examples are Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal,
Canada, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, West
Virginia, USA and Bi-Op Montreal, Canada.
With its stylish design and high quality components, the 3D Capturor
II and the 3D Mega Capturor II have been simplified to enable usage
by non-specialized users. These digitizers can be applied to
computer animation, videogame development, movie special effects,
medical imaging and research, e-commerce as well as other various
applications. Each of these expanding markets can benefit from the
high quality 3D data provided by InSpeck's new line of digitizers.

Both the 3D Capturor II and the 3D Mega Capturor II are capable of
providing its users with the realism needed to create a game
character or film special effect. It can quickly measure a living
being's 3D geometry and texture in color. Whatever the skin color or
facial feature, our technology can capture it and turn it into high
quality usable data.
Involuntary movement during an acquisition is a non-issue compared
to laser acquisitions, which can take up to 20 seconds or more. This
advantage is due to a system based on white halogen light, which
makes it fast and completely safe for humans.
This new Capturor series is specially designed to capture hair,
which has traditionally been a problem for others. Because of its
fine texture, complex structure and many variants, hair is probably
the most difficult thing to digitize. InSpeck's digitizer can also
digitize any skin color with ease. Its capability to capture hair
and skin color is what distinguishes the 3D Capturor II and the 3D
Mega Capturor II from the rest.
DIGITIZED VOLUME OPTIONS
The Capturor is available in three different fields of view. The
Capturor [Small Field] is perfect for small target areas like faces
or heads for example. It will give you very high resolution. The
Capturor [Large Field] will acquire a larger target area but with
lesser details. With this model you can easily digitize half a
person, (head to waist, waist to feet etc). Finally, the Capturor
[Medium Field] is in between the two. It will give you a lot of
details and you'll be able to digitize from a person's head to
his/her torso.
HOW TO BUILD A 3D MODEL
Creating complete 3D models (360°) can be done by taking
multiple acquisitions (views) using a single digitizer. Then, the
multiple views can be stitched in InSpeck's EM software. This
software will not only generate a complete 3D model but it also
provides many functions to edit and modify it such as reducing and
simplifying polygons, editing texture (2D/3D) and exporting to
various 3D graphics software packages like Softimage©, 3D Studio
Max© and MAYA©. If the 3D model needs to be animated, more
functionalities like NURBS generation, sub surface and morphing
tools will help productivity and accelerate workflow. See the
“Software” section for more information on InSpeck EM. This solution
is very affordable, portable and easy to use.
Another possibility is to configure more than one digitizer to work
together as a system. You can configure multiple digitizers together
and by placing your subject/object in the middle, you can take a
single acquisition. This enables users to easily capture subjects
that can't stay still for more than a few seconds (i.e. babies,
animals etc.), otherwise impossible by taking multiple acquisitions
with a single digitizer. This is what InSpeck calls the Multi Head
system. These systems come with a calibration target that eliminates
time-consuming registration (view alignment) processing steps. In
the end, Multi Head systems help users cut down drastically the time
it takes to go from acquisitions to complete 3D models.
There are different types of Multi Head configurations. Please refer
to the “Systems” menu for more information on specific
configurations.
INSPECK GIVES YOU MORE
When you buy one of InSpeck's digitizers, you buy a quality
product. Each Capturor unit is assembled individually with quality
components and great precision. The digitizer itself is robust,
portable, affordable and ergonomically designed. It is very easy to
set up and can be attached to virtually any tripod model the market
has to offer.
